In 2024 I began exploring different methods of monotype and monoprinting.

clay and slips
Clay monoprinting, developed by potter and printmaker, Mitch Lyons (1938-2018), involves first applying and adhering colored clay slips to a leather-hard clay slab matrix. The resulting clay particles and image are then transferred and bonded to a fibrous paper known as Reemay. It was at a weekend workshop by artist Linda Maxson, held at her Rancho Mirage, CA studio and gallery, that I first began to learn this method. Linda initially learned the method from Lyons himself.

solarplate
Artist Dan Weldon developed the solarplate as a non-toxic method, that uses sun and water to 'etch' a photopolymer plate and produce prints with the qualities of those made using more traditional techniques. In June 2024 I spent a wonderful week learning from Dan at a workshop held at Don Messec's Making Art Safely studio in Santa Fe, NM.
